Baptism is a symbol of Christ’s burial and resurrection. Our entrance into the water during baptism identifies us with the death of Christ on the cross, His burial in the tomb, and His resurrection from the dead unto newness of life. This newness of life signifies our adoption into the family of God and the entrance into the body of Christ, His church. However, is baptism to be administered after a simple profession of faith or do we find certain prerequisites that the Bible and SOP outline with respect to church membership? I believe this is an important question and a proper understanding of it lays the foundation for order in the church.
